Optics Group is a New Romanian Street Art Crew
A brand new mural by Optics Group was unravelled this past weekend at Street Delivery – the most important urban festival in Bucharest, Romania. Lost.Optics and Pren ignited the corner of Verona Street with an ode to the city. The two artists combined with finesse striking shapes and colors, with soft three-dimensional gradients and hints to the city’s vocabulary (a slide, a traffic light, a direction sign etc.). This ensemble recites a visual poem responding to the festival’s 2019 theme: Poetry is in the Streets.
Commissioned by Street Delivery and curated by Elvira Lupșa, the mural works as a reminder of the importance of urban interventions by artists. Its pristine execution contrasts with the eclectic cityscape of Bucharest, which is a melange of degraded art deco gems and inadequate contemporary architecture. The text on the black billboard is a verse by poet Claudiu Komartin which reads “Excuse me, which part of the city hurts the most?”. The wall also contains a layer of augmented reality that can be uncovered through your smartphone or tablet. Passersby will be able to contemplate the vivid mural for one year and hopefully consider that there is a wealth of potential for poetry in contemporary urban spaces when creatives get involved.
